Gear indexing is the precise adjustment of both the front and rear derailleurs to ensure your bike shifts smoothly and accurately through every gear. Over time, cables can stretch, housing can settle, and small knocks can affect alignment, leading to missed shifts, chain rub, or noisy gearing. We fine-tune the cable tension and limit settings so each shift engages cleanly without hesitation, improving performance, reducing drivetrain wear, and giving you a smoother, more reliable ride. This service is ideal for riders experiencing jumping gears, slow shifting, or after installing new cables or drivetrain components. We provide professional gear indexing in Redhill and across Surrey and Sussex, helping local cyclists keep their bikes shifting perfectly all year round.

What's Included:

  • Inspection of front and rear derailleurs
  • Fine-tuning of limit screws
  • Adjustment of cable tension
  • Alignment check

FAQ

How long does a Gold Service take?

As this is a full strip down and rebuild, it usually takes slightly longer than our other services. Most Gold services are completed within 1 to 2 weeks depending on workload and any additional parts required.

Is this service suitable for older bikes?

Yes. Older bikes often benefit the most from a full strip down, especially if they have not had a thorough service in some time.

Will parts be replaced automatically?

No. We will always contact you before replacing any worn or damaged parts. No additional work is carried out without your approval.

What is the difference between Silver and Gold?

The Gold Service includes a full strip down and rebuild, along with headset and bottom bracket removal and re-greasing. Silver focuses more on adjustment, wheel truing, and drivetrain cleaning.

How often should I book a Gold Service?

For regularly ridden bikes, once a year is a good guideline. If you ride in harsh conditions or high mileage, you may benefit from it more frequently.
